Become an accreditation assessor

What does an ANMAC assessor do?

Assessors review entry to practice nursing or midwifery programs to determine if they meet relevant ANMAC accreditation standards. An ANMAC assessment team usually consists of: 

  • an ANMAC Associate Director  
  • two assessors with academics and/or educational expertise 
  • one assessor with relevant clinical practice expertise. 

The assessor role

An assessor undertakes the following tasks across the program assessment timeframe, which usually takes 9 to 12 months. Time spent assessing documents and participating in meetings, counts toward continuous professional development hours and is remunerated by ANMAC. 

ASSESSOR TASKS – the Assessor: TIME SPENT TIMEFRAMES

Preliminary review – completes an independent assessment of the education provider’s (EP’s) submission 

Approximately 16 hours, depending on quantity and quality of evidence 

Up to 10 working days to complete  

Collated review meeting – attends a virtual meeting to share your findings with assessment team (AT) members. Discuss travel needs for forthcoming site visits

Approximately 3 hours  

 

Collated Review Report – reviews and comments on feedback to be sent to the EP 

Approximately 1 hour 

Up to 5 working days to complete

Pre-site visit evidence assessment – assesses the EP’s submitted evidence

Approximately 2 hours, depending on quantity and quality of evidence 

Up to 5 working days to complete

Site visit meeting – travels to the EP, meets the AT and EP staff, participates in meetings and reviews program resources 

Usually more than 1 day, depending on travel needs and number of campuses  

 

Site Visit Report – reviews and comments on feedback to be sent to the EP

Approximately 1 hour 

Up to 5 working days to complete

Post-site visit evidence assessment – This may include a few evidence cycles requiring your assessment and feedback  

Approximately 1 hour per cycle, depending on quantity and quality of evidence 

Up to 5 working days to complete

Outcome of Accreditation Assessment Report – reviews and comments on recommended assessment outcomes to be sent to the EP and Accreditation Committee

Less than 1 hour 

Up to 3 working days to complete

Accreditation Committee meeting – attended by AT Chair and Associate Director 

Less than 1 hour, depending on program complexity 

 

AT self-evaluation survey – completed to support quality improvements 

Less than 1 hour

Sent after final NMBA decision

Does ANMAC provide assessor training?

New assessors will be required to complete online training, which is currently in development. This training can count toward continuous professional development. For more information, please contact accreditation@anmac.org.au
